AWARDS

When starting the clubs you will have the opportunity to take part in the Broadmoor Wood Stables Awards.  The awards go from bronze riding and stable management awards to diamond riding and stable management awards.  The club lessons will train you to the next stage covering all the syllabus in both riding and stable management.

   BRONZE RIDING AWARD

  • * Mount from the ground
  • * Hold the reins correctly
  • * Walk off the lead rein on both reins
  • * Rising trot off thelead rein on both reins
  • * Stop the horse when asked
  • * Change the rein in and trotwhen asked
  • * Stand the horse on the centre line and dismount correctly and safely

 

BRONZE STABLE MANAGEMENTAWARD

  • Name all the brushes in the grooming kit
  • Explain how each brush is used
  • Muck out a straw bed
  • Fill a haynet
  • Clean and fill a water bucket
  • put all tyhe mucking out equipment away safely
  • Put a head collar on a horse/pony

 

SILVER RIDING AWARD

  • Mount the horse from the mounting block
  • Adjus the stirrups and trhe girth while on the horse with out help
  • Walk on both reins
  • Rising trot on both reins
  • Sitting trot on both reins
  • Stop the horse when asked
  • 20m circle at A,B or E and C
  • Rising trot over trotting poles
  • Rein back 3 steps
  • Complete a 3 loop serpentine in rising trot on the correct diagonal
  • Standthe horse on the centre line and dismount correctly and safely

 

SILVER STABLEMANAGEMENT AWARD

  • Groom a horse correctly
  • Be able to put brushing boots on
  • Lead a horse to the field
  • Take off and put on a head collar
  • Muckout a shavings bed
  • Clean the saddle and bridle
  • Name the parts of the saddle and bridle

 

GOLD RIDING AWARD

  • Tack up the horse
  • Mount by a leg up
  • Walk, trot and canter on both reins
  • Sitting trot on both reins 
  • 20m circle in canter at A and C
  • Stop the when asked
  • One direct transititon
  • Walk, trot and canter on both reins in jump position
  • Stand on the centre line and dismount correctly and safely
  • Take horse back to stable yard and untack

 

GOLD STABLE MANAGEMENT AWARD

  • Fit a pelham and martingale to a horse
  • Put polo wraps on
  • Put over reach boots on
  • Strip bridle apart and put it back together
  • Catch a horse from the field
  • Field check
  • Name the bones in the horses fore leg
  • Clip a horse

 

PLATINUM RIDING AWARD

  • Tack horse up
  • Mount 2 out of the 3 ways
  • Warm the horse correctly for jumping
  • trot over trotting poles in jump position
  • Jump a cross pole in trot and canter on both reinsMolly jumping our new pony Dex
  • Jump a double fron canter on both reins
  • Jump a grid of three jumps in canter on both reins
  • cool down correctly
  • Dismount safely
  • Untack the horse

 

PLATINUM STABLE MANAGEMENT AWARD

  • Put stable bandages on
  • Treat a cut on the horses upper leg
  • Name 3 bits
  • Name all 5 groups of bits
  • Points of the horse
  • Name bones in the horses body
  • Tack up horse ready for travelling
  • Load a horse on the box safely
  • Make up feeds from the feed list

PLATINUM TEACHING TEST

Teach a small group a stable managment lesson.

 

PLATINUM PLUS RIDING (FLAT WORK) AWARD

  • Mount horse from the mounting block
  • Warm up correctly
  • Walk, trot and canter on both reins in the correct outline
  • lengthening and shortening the trot and canter
  • Transition to canter over X
  • Complete a turn on the fore hand
  • Leg yield from the centre line to he track in trot on both reins
  • Cool down correctly
  • Dismount correctly
  • Untack horse

 

PLATINUM PLUS RIDING JUMP AWARD

  • All points in the Platinum award plus
  • jump 2'9" or over
  • Explain what happened over the jump and why it happened
  • Explain ways to improve
  • Go and try out your methods to see if they work

 

PLATINUM PLUS STABLE MANAGEMENT AWARD

  • Plait a horse up ready for a competition
  • Explain what i should feed my 25 year old dressage horse
  • Explain what ishould feed my 4 year old jumping pony and why
  • Write a fitness plan for a horse that has been out of work for 6 months
  • Tack a horse ready for lungeing with side reins
  • Lunge a horse with side reins
  • Trim horses face and legs

DIAMOND RIDING AWARD

  • All of the platinum plus flat work award plus
  • Explain how to improve the horses way of going
  • Explain howto improve your position
  • Go out and school horse usingthe points you gave earlier
  • Be able to feel an improvement inthe horse and talk about what you feel

DIAMOND STABLE MANAGEMENT AWARD

  • Tack up a horse ready to lunge in a pessoa
  • Lunge a horse in a pessoa
  • Name rugs and their purpose
  • Age a horse by it's teeth
  • Put a bandage on the knee
  • Explain how you would treat a horse with a dust allergy
  • Explain what a horse would look like trotting if it was lameon one of it's fore legs
